September Recap and #Blobtober
We make blobs on paper and then we doodle in them
Art
Duck Stamp Contest!
I got to attend the live judging of the Duck Stamp Contest in the Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, Maryland and it was sooo cool to see all the paintings in real life!
I have a video coming out about this experience that I’ll share later. Suffice to say that I got a lot of very kind words that made me so happy to share my art. I am so happy I did it and I can’t thank you all enough for choosing the Wood Duck for me as the duck to paint this year!
You can buy prints and stickers in my shop!
Album cover
I wrapped up a summer long project with Elliott Grabill, a composer in Baltimore, where I was tasked with creating an album cover and booklet for the new album “Heroes and Villains,” featuring the Civitasolis Reed Quintet. The album comes out on Halloween on most streaming platforms!
If anyone knows of other opportunities like this, please let me know!
Blobtober
I recently found out about Blobtober from buttercat_paradox, which is a very much slower Inktober, for anyone who is counting. I did Inktober a few years ago and it was STRESSFUL. So I’m doing Blobtober this year. It’s just one drawing every three days. Join me? Join me!
The steps are
Make blobs
Finish them
The prompts are by date so
10/1 - Forest
10/4 - Skull
10/7 - Cat
10/10 - Fish
10/13 - Lizard
10/16 - Plant
10/19 - Bird
10/22 - Dog
10/25 - Face
10/28 - Free will
10/31 - Halloween
Post your pictures on social media or email me your stuff if you like and I’ll make a round-up post of all the submissions!
I’ll be doing mine in my small watercolor sketchbook and in preparation for it, I’ll do my blobs of watercolor ahead of time so on the day itself, I just draw.
The Wheaton Arts Parade
The parade was fantastic and so much fun to see 1. people come together for one common purpose of sharing art, 2. people expressing themselves and being joyful and 3. I got some cool art and stickers from Canela Ro!

Movies
The Naked Gun was easily one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. That sort of stupid humor, that is rapid fire, is fantastic.
On the other hand, I pretty much hated Friendship and I might be the only person to have the guts to say that publicly.
I also watched Lilo and Stitch and honestly, I kind of don’t get the appeal. I am very much the wrong demographic.
Music
David Byrne in concert!
What a treat, thank you to my dear father who gave us a Christmas gift early! We ate dinner at the fish and chip shop near the Anthem in Washington, D.C., and walked through the rain to get to see David Byrne moving around on stage like a spry 73 year old. It was so awesome to get to hear some of my favorite songs ever be sung.
Broken Bells: Somehow in 2022, I missed that Broken Bells released an album called Into the Blue. I can’t stand The Shins because I listened to them too much as a younger person and also it was featured too much on the Garden State soundtrack… But this collaboration with Danger Mouse is great! I also liked when Karen O did her music with Danger Mouse so I guess I like Danger Mouse!

I couldn't even get past 15 minutes of Friendship! So I probably have the same opinion... I love the blobs. I am going to join you!
I love your sense of humor, I haven’t watched Friendship yet but love how you stated your opinion. I am looking forward to joining in on the Blobtober and will likely use your method of doing the blobs ahead of time= no dry time day-of. Thanks for the chuckles and, as always, the art you share!
